How much of our coasts and waterways are clean according to Irish Business Against Litter?

The Irish Business Against Litter has conducted a study of our coasts and waterways across Ireland.

Over the last few months, An Taisce has been scrutinizing our rivers, beaches and harbours for the IBAL survey.

What do you think the results were?

Only 16 percent of our coasts and waterways are clean, say the Irish Business Against Litter.
That means that only 1 in 6 were considered clean, according to the study of 42 areas around the country.

Topping the cleanest beaches list were;
Salthill, Galway
Curracloe, Wexford
Seapoint, Dublin

The most heavily littered list consists of;
The Barrow in Carlow town
The Tolka in Dublin
Cork Harbour near Midleton.

And the most common forms of litter found were;

Food wrappers,
Plastic bottles,
Cans 
and cigarette butts.
